We are very excited about our first post, and hope this blog will grow and grow and act as a dynamic online diary of the Waterfront Community Centre activities.
Perhaps a good place to begin would be describing a little more about our organisation and our aims and history :
The Waterfront Community Centre is situated opposite University College Suffolk and is a stone’s throw from the Waterfront re-development area.
The Centre provides a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere where people can come and obtain information share their problems and receive guidance and support.
We work closely with other organisations and agencies signposting people, when appropriate, who need to access services and require specialist knowledge. Our priority is to work in a holistic way with disadvantaged members of our community and those most likely to suffer prejudice, discrimination, and social exclusion.
Our Aims and Objectives:
Achieve community led solutions to the problems of crime, poor health and education, under achievement and unemployment thus improving community safety.
Provide a base for individuals and groups to meet to undertake a variety of activities and gain information with the aim of developing people’s confidence, self esteem and transferable skills.
Support people in personal development with emphasis on the importance of physical activities and a healthy lifestyle.
Enhance education, training, employment prospects and life skills for disadvantaged individuals and excluded groups of people of all ages.
Encourage and involve people in developing an interest in caring for the environment, nature and recycling.
Be pro-active in opposing all forms of prejudice and discrimination thus reducing stereotyping and increasing understanding.
Foster and promote relationships between groups of different faiths, beliefs, cultures and nationalities.
